Tokukatsu Katana Sword ca. 1800s with Mount. Beautiful Katana made by Tokukatsu (also known as Norikatsu) one of the most famous smiths from the Mito School. He was an actual Samurai that excelled at swordmaking he was retained by the Mito family. He is sought after by collectors for having made swords of very high quality and having a beautiful masame (straight grained) hada. This exhibits these fine qualities, all the lines crisp and correct and in a very top level Japanese polish. Blade is healthy, demonstrates strength, and a very good example of Tokukatsu. Tang is original with a beautifully signed mei. The mounting for this sword is a full mint condition set. The tsuba is very fined with a well cut design of bears hunting. The handle is very long in the style of the Bakumatsu period. The fuchi and kashira are shinchu design of a serene landscape, the menuki are large pinetrees in Goto style.
