Lot 278

1851 N-15 R4 NGC graded MS65 RED. Lustrous bright mint red mellowing to light steel brown on the highpoints, at least 75% of the original mint color remaining on both sides. Nearly flawless. The notable marks are a speck of dark toning midway between the brow lock and star 4, a tiny swipe of darker toning near the hair below star 7, and a speck of carbon in the dentils over the left side of the U in UNITED. LDS, die state b. The points from the throat are gone; the two points the main curl above the inner curl are very short. Our grade is MS64. Tied for CC#6 in the Grellman census but one of the "reddest" examples seen. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the NGC label. NGC population 1; tied with 3 graded 65RD at PCGS for finest. Estimated Value $3,000 - UP
