1851 N-14 R2 First 1 Repunched PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Frosty light olive and steel brown with 40% of the obverse showing mint red but only traces of faded mint color remaining visible on the reverse. The notable marks are a spot between the top of the second 1 and the curl above, a small spot midway between stars 10 & 11, and a very fine planchet lamination in the dentils above TA in STATES. E-MDS, die state b. The die line at the throat and dash under the left base of the first 1 are visible but the repunching under the peak of that 1 is gone. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#4 honors in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer in 65.
