Lot 273

1851 N-9 R3- PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Frosty medium brown and light olive with 5-10% of the mint red remaining. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has nice eye appeal. The notable marks are puff of slightly darker toning in the hair below star 8, a diagonal planchet chip right of the nostril, and another smaller chip at the same angle on the chin, both as struck. E-MDS, die state a, with a fine vertical line in the field just right of the main curl. Nicely struck except for weakness on the shoulder and at the opposing area in the leaves below OF. Our grade is MS60, tied for CC#6 in the Grellman census. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 1 finer in 64. Estimated Value $450 - UP
