Lot 270

1851 N-6 R1 First 1 Repunched PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Lustrous light olive and steel brown with underlying very faded mint red in protected areas on both sides. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is excellent. No spots or stains. The only defects are a few very light contact marks in the obverse fields including a small nick off the upper right point of star 4. Rare M-LDS, die state d. The earlier points up from the coronet under star 6 are and the repunching at the first 1 are all gone, and the fields are strongly flowlined. The extremely rare terminal rim cud at the bottom of the reverse has not formed. Our grade is MS62+, close to MS63. Tied for CC#15 of the variety but finest of the die state in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 5; none finer. Estimated Value $900 - UP
