Lot 27

1796 S-100 R5 Draped Bust Reverse of 1797 PCGS Genuine XF Details Damage. Mostly glossy medium to dark steel brown and chocolate. The planchet is reasonably smooth but not perfectly so, and there is an area of fine pitting in the field below the lower end of the hair ribbon and a single pit in the leaves right of the E in ONE. No notable verdigris but there are a few contact marks. The significant marks are a strong nick on the jaw at the throat and a light scratch arcing through the upper part of IB in LIBERTY. E-MDS, Breen state II, with light die clashmarks. Not perfect but not bad for this rare variety. Slightly superior to the Dr. Charles Ruby net VG10 example in the condition census. The date is strong and the legends are clear. Our grade is VF25+ sharpness net VG10. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP

Realized $900
