Bonanno (1905-2002) was boss of the Bonanno crime family and John Gotti, known as the "Teflon Don" (1940-2002) headed the Gambino crime family. The Bonanno and Gambino families were two of the five crime families that dominated organized crime in New York from 1931, the others being the Colombo, Genovese and Lucchese families. In recent years, all of them have declined to various extents.
