Marlon Brando, THE WILD ONE, 12 Rare Photos by Irving Lippman and Homer Van Pelt, 1953. Marlon Brando (1924-2004) one of the most influential and at times, controversial actors of the 20th Century. His performances in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, ON THE WATERFRONT, THE GODFATHER, LAST TANGO IN PARIS and GUYS AND DOLLS will remain classics of their genres. But he made some interesting choices along the way and certainly his role as Johnny Strabler, the biker outlaw in THE WILD ONE, proved to be a significant cultural touchstone which was inspired by a rise in biker violence in the late 1940s and early 50s. The film today is still well received but it is at times melodrama bordering on camp and very much of the time. But the imagery in the film is so iconic, and Brando as Strabler has never been equaled (Mildred: "Hey, Johnny, what are you rebelling against?" Johnny Strabler: "What've you got?") Offered are twelve (12) vintage original stills from the original release in 1953. Most are stamped with Columbia Pictures on verson with credits to acclaimed photographers Irving Lippman or Homer Van Pelt. Nine of the photos feature Brando; one is an astonishing shot of the Black Rebels motorcycle gang roaring into town as if on horses in a Western film, riots, and a fantastic image of Lee Marvin on his bike. All are in overall excellent conditon, one with some edgewear. Estimate Value $600 - UP
