Lot 228

1850 N-2 R1 Repunched 1 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Frosty light to medium brown with traces of mint red remaining on both sides. The only marks are a speck of crud nestled between two dentils right of star 6 and a small spot of darker olive brown toning over the left side of the N in ONE. Nicely struck E-MDS, die state c, with a very fine die crack from ED in UNITED to the dentils over the adjacent S. The fields on the lower part of the obverse are covered with strong die lines and the repunching on the 1 is clear. Our grade is MS60+, tied for CC#10 with several other examples of the variety in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 3 finer in 65. Estimated Value $500 - UP
