Strong, Caleb -- Military Appointment Signed as Governor of Massachusetts (1745-1819) Assisted in drafting the Massachusetts State Constitution in 1779; elected to the inaugural U.S. Senate; 6th and 10th Governor of Massachusetts. Partly-printed document signed "Caleb Strong" as Governor of Massachusetts, one page, 9¾ x 15½" (Boston), Sept. 22, 1802. Appointing John McDonald, Gentleman, "Ensign of a Company in the fifth Regiment of the first Brigade & Sixth Division of the Militia of this Commonwealth." Countersigned by John Avery, Secretary. Very good; light toning, a couple of holes at vertical fold, ghosting from seal at top left. Strong signature. Estimate $300 - 400
