Lot 213

1849 N-17 R4 PCGS graded MS63 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous olive brown and steel with 20% of the obverse and 70% of the reverse showing bright original mint red. Both dies were freshly lapped and fine die polishing lines cover the fields on both sides. The fields are slightly reflective thanks to the fresh die polishing. No spots or stains. The only marks are some faint ticks on the nose and cheek and some small nicks at ONE CENT. None of these marks is visible to the unaided eye and this cent has great eye appeal. MDS, die state c. The fine die lines right of the T in CENT are gone but the additional die crack at ICA has not formed. An impressive cent. Our grade is MS63+, CC#1 for the variety and the "reddest" example of the variety by a wide margin in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; finest graded in RB. Estimated Value $2,500 - UP
