Female Bust, Baule, Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast, West Africa) and One Mid-Century Male Nigerian Bronze, Yoruba, with Interesting Headpiece. Fine, mid-century (possibly older) Baule carved wood bust. Lovely piece made from a thick block of hard wood. Very traditional figurative carving measuring 12 x 7 x 5". Coupled with the carving is a cast bronze bust of a male using the lost wax method, the bronzes from the Ife & Benin regions which are considered to be some of the best from the region. A powerful image with fine refinement to the eyes and mouth, the striations of the skin and the details of the headpiece complete with its not so subtle phallic symbol. 10¾ x 5 x 5 with no issues.
