Lot 2069

1855-S. PCI graded AU-50. Our grade is XF-40. Only 61,000 struck, with merely 135 examples estimated to have survived in all grades according to PCGS CoinFacts. This is a very early San Francisco Mint half eagle, struck onthe heals of the famed 1854-S half eagle of which just a few are known today. These circulated hard and wide as demand for smaller gold coins was immense at the time, and its a wonder that any were saved this nice.
Estimated Value $700 - 750.
