Lot 205

1849 N-8 R2 Repunched 9 PCGS graded AU58. The so-called 9 over 8 Overdate. Frosty chocolate and medium olive brown. The only notable mark is a tiny scratch near the dentils at star 13, and this mark certainly does not catch your eye. M-LDS, die state c. The repunching at the right bottom of the 9 is barely visible and the die crack through the reverse legend is clear. Dull remnants of the earlier die lines at the dentils left of star 3 are still visible. The doubling on the reverse is clear (a real doubled die, not "machine doubling"). Our grade is EF45+. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 4 finer: 1 in 63, 3 in 64. Estimated Value $250 - UP
