Lot 203

1849 N-5 R4- PCGS graded AU55. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. There is dirt nestled into many of the protected areas, particularly on the reverse. The only notable defect is a small patch of corrosion and verdigris hidden in the dentils left of star 5 (although this may be a planchet flake filled with crud). A cent that really needs a proper bath. EDS, die state a, before any crumbling that connects leaves 24 & 25. Struck on a planchet with beveled edges (as usual on early strikes of the variety). Our grade is VF35 (perhaps a bit higher after a bath). The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer: 1 in 63, 1 in 64. Estimated Value $150 - UP
Ex Bill Smith 6/23/2002-Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth Collection.
