Very Fine High Karat Ring, 1st Millennium A.D. with Superb Carnelian Intaglio with the Portrait of a Possible Emperor. Beautiful 22K yellow gold ring with an especially fine carved carnelian intaglio of an emperor, statesman or athlete. Powerful, idealized mail portrait bust with image facing right. The dark area atop head is simply the slight darkening of the deep red carnelian. 12.30 total grams and the ring is a size 7½ and certainly wearable with care. A fine, fine piece.
