Lot 199

1805 S-267 R1. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. Very attractive lustrous medium steel brown with generous traces of mint red remaining visible on the reverse. The surfaces are covered with satiny mint frost that covers even the highest points of the devices. The obverse is flawless except for a tiny planchet chip in the field under the chin (as struck). The reverse is choice except for a splash of microscopic reddish carbon below AM, and the toning change catches your eye. MDS, Breen state III, with a dull die crack through the top of AME and delicate die clashmarks on both sides. Graded MS60 net AU55 and tied for CC#5 in the Noyes census, his photo #23300. Bland says MS61 and tied for CC#2. Our grade is MS60. This is the Breen plate coin for the variety in his large cent encyclopedia. Comes with a wonderful provenance. The attribution and Great Pacific Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 2 finer: 1 in 64, 1 in 65. (PCGS # 36427) Value $15,000 - UP
