Lot 1987

Great Britain. Bronzed Proof Twopence, 1797. George III Soho Mint. S-3776; KM-619; Peck-1065 (rated "very scarce" by Peck, in any grade). Early Soho issue (i.e., contemporary: struck in 1797). Very Choice bronzed Proof, lovely dark-chocolate bronzed surfaces. A small patch of ancient verdigris in the reverse field to the right of the shield, as well as two tiny spots on the king's cheek. A bold and very lovely example, so sharply made that the minute rigging details on the ship are crystal-clear! Terner Collection, but too large for PCGS to slab. Proof 64.
Estimated Value $900 - 1,100.

Realized $949
