1803 S-254 R1. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. CAC. Lustrous golden tan. Sharply struck and essentially flawless except for a dozen tiny specks of dark toning (not carbon) scattered over the obverse. The only notable contact mark is a small vertical nick near the curl on the neck. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with a very strong die crack through the bust tip, and the area outlined by the crack is partially risen as a retained cud. Graded MS63 and tied for CC#3 honors in the Bland and Noyes census lists, Noyes photo #21099. Our grade is MS63 as well. The obverse of this cent is plated in the 1925 Howard Newcomb reference on the cents of 1801-1803, and in the 1991 Noyes reference on the cents of 1793-1814. Comes with a great provenance that has been traced back well over a century. The attribution and Great Pacific Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label.
