Liszt, Franz Hungarian composer and pianist (1811-1886) Hungarian composer and pianist. "Etudes d'exécution transcendante par F. Liszt" (Breitkipf & Härtel), 108 pages, 10¼ x 6½". Inscribed and signed "Frau Antonia Raab…F. Lizt…71" on the inside cover. Dedicated in print to Czech composer Charles Czerrny. Covers are worn, with some paper loss around edges and rough tape repair to spine. Protected by paper wrappers. Pages are toned throughout, with some soiling and a few pencil notations. Title page notes: "Seule edition authentique revue par l'auteur." Condition is good to very good.

Liszt wrote transcriptions for piano of a wide variety of music and played many of them himself. Antonia Raab was a Hungarian pianist who was a pupil of Franz Liszt; they performed together in 1881. In March 1883, Liszt composed a nocturne based on a poem by Raab: "Schlaflos! Frage und Antwort-- Nocturne nach einem Gedicht von A Raab" ["Sleepless! Question and Answer--Nocturne from the poem by A Raab"]. Raab married a member of Emperor Franz Josef's palace guard. Estimate Value $800 - 1,000
