Engraving of Silas Deane, by Pierre du Simitière. Bust profile right copper plate engraving on heavy stock paper, 10½" x 8", published May 15, 1783 by R. Wilkinson, London., 5½" x 4 1/8' plate. The initials "B.B.E." at lower right are believed to be those of an engraver named Ellis. This is one of a set of twelve published in a portfolio titled "Portraits of the Generals, Ministers, Magistrates, Members of Congress, and Others, Who Have Rendered Themselves Illustrious in the Revolution of the United States of America." Deane is identified as "Commissioner from Congress in France." Very good; light soiling to stock paper; blue paper remnants on reverse of the four corners.
