Egyptian (Possibly Iranian) "Molar Flask" 9th-10th Century with Thick Iridescence. This small bottle probably mold-blown then faceted and linear cut made of opaque glass. This bottles proved a popular shape for glass cosmetic containers used in medieval Egypt. Commonly referred to as "molar flasks," these vessels' shape is thought to resemble a tooth. The four "feet" function as a tiny pedestal for the miniature flask, which would have been filled with various cosmetics, including kohl (a black unguent used as an eyeliner) and essential oils to perfume the body.
9th -10th century. 6.3cm, has chip to one foot as found, no repairs, its visual appeal greatly enhance with its thick layer of iridescence. Estimated Value $200 - 400
