Lot 1898
1871. NGC graded AU-58. Mostly untoned with reflective fields. Light surface abrasions, there is a fine scratch by the 13th star. Prooflike, as are most, if not all. Sharply struck and generally attractive given this coin’s acknowledged rarity. Condition Census quality. With so few business strikes minted, possibly as few as 40 to 75 pieces are all that exist today. Coin for coin, year after year, issue upon issue, $10 Gold Eagles tend to be rarer than any other denominations, including the more export-oriented $20 Double Eagle. The specialist in this series will recognize at once that this as a landmark occasion to take advantage of what we consider to be an extraordinary opportunity. The new owner should feel comfortable with the ownership of the piece offered in this Lot. Pop 9; none finer at NGC (PCGS # 8660) . Estimated Value $7,500 - 8,000.
