Lot 189

1833 C-1 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous bluish steel and light chocolate brown. A very attractive half cent. The only notable marks are a spot of very slightly darker brown toning at the bottom of the O in OF and another at the left foot of the first A in AMERICA. LDS, Manley state 3.0, with extensive and very sharply defined die clashmarks covering the fields on the obverse. At first glance you may think these are contact marks, but they are not. Similar crisp die clashmarks show on the reverse. In addition the central part of the reverse die was freshly polished and much of that area has a reflective prooflike appearance. A neat die state. Our grade is MS62+, very close to MS63. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 6; 4 finer, 2 in 64+, 1 in 65, 1 in 66 for the variety. Estimate Value $1,250 - UP
Ex Bowers & Merena 12/16/2000-The Green Tree Collection.
