Lot 187

1848 N-36 R5 PCGS graded AU50, CAC Approved. Choice frosty light to medium brown with steel brown toning on the devices. Frosty luster shows in the protected areas on both sides and this cent has excellent eye appeal. Virtually perfect with only light friction on the highpoints of the devices. The only marks are a tiny diagonal nick in the field off the tip of the nose and a nick-like pre-striking planchet mark over ON in ONE. LDS, die state b, with smooth, slightly reflective obverse fields. The earlier vertical die line below the first 8 is gone. A beautiful example of this tough variety. Our grade is EF45+, CC#7 for this tough die variety in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 5 finer: 1 in 55, 2 in 58, 1 in 62, 1 in 63. Estimated Value $1,250 - UP
