Lot 184

1832 C-3 R2 PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC Approved. Beautiful lustrous medium brown and light chocolate with overtones of light bluish steel in protected areas. Sharply struck with full radial lines in all the stars and hard, slightly reflective fields on both sides. The only notable marks are a puff of slightly darker brown toning over the curl at the bottom of the neck and a small struck-through line under the A in STATES (caused by a tiny piece of lint or wire that came between the die and planchet when it was struck). Fine horizontal die polishing lines are clearly visible inside the wreath indicating this was a very early strike. Scattered die rust is clearly evident on the reverse. Obviously this reverse die became rusted before ever being used to strike any half cents. A wonderful half cent. Our grade is MS63. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 1 finer in 66 for the variety. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
Ex Aspen Park 2/25/2002-The Green Tree Collection.
