Lot 1798

1889. PCGS graded MS-65. Mostly untoned. Only 2,300 minted. The surfaces display the desirable mint bloom so often lacking in lower quality coins, and the luster is complete and gleaming with satiny color. Sharply impressed by the dies, with no weakness on Liberty's curls or the wreath. The main focus of grading, however, we must look to the surfaces and these are what really separate this coin from the "average" MS65 $3 gold piece, and place it at the top of that grading selection. For this Gem BU makes the grade, and then some! We record this as an opportunity which should not be neglected by any serious student of this series. Pop 28; 14 finer, 1 in 65+, 10 in 66, 1 in 66+, 2 in 67 (PCGS # 8011) .
Estimated Value $15,000 - 16,000.
