Revolutionary War Date Document -- A Duplicate of the Tax or Duty on Servants for 1777 for the Borough and Parish of Boston. Vellum document, 9½ x 12½", Boston, Aug. 25, 1778, being a contemporary duplicate of "all and every Sum and Sums of Money assessed upon the Borugh and Parish of Boston in the County of Lincoln…by virtue…of an Act of Parliament made in the Seventeenth year of the Reign of his present Majesty."The assessors are named as Edward Stevens, West Wheldale the Younger, Thomas Yerburgh, and George Moore. The collectors are named as Thomas Yerburgh and George Moore. The Commissioners of the Tax are in the left margin: J: Ayre Mayor, West Wheldale, and Thos: Cheyney. The amount collected was £35.5.0. Some age darkening to vellum and a few small holes to folds. An interesting document showing a British tax being collected, even in the midst of the Revolution. Estimate Value $300 - UP
