Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 5

Lot 1751

1868 $20 Liberty. AU-53. Sharply struck by the dies, with pleasing mint luster in the fields still adhering. Moderate handling marks in the open spaces of the obverse fields, while the device filled reverse design hides most of the contact marks. The date logotype is high, with the 1 nearly touching Liberty's bust. The reverse die was obviously lapped (ground down by the Mint, probably to remove cracks or clash marks), so much so that the center arrow shaft is gone, and the middle arrow head is very weak.

Realized $2,645
