Lot 1726

Ptolemaic Egypt. Arsinoê II, wife of Ptolemy II, d. 270 BC. AR Dekadrachm (35.6 g), struck under Ptolemy III. Diademed and veiled bust right of Arsinoê II, lotus scepter behind bust; "BB" in left field. Reverse: Filleted cornuacopiae. Troxell, plate 6, 6; cf. Svoronos 938; SNG Cop. 136. Well-struck on a large flan, with none of the usual flan cracks found on this impressive issue. Extremely Fine.

Hyla Troxell, in her elucidating article in the ANS Museum Notes 28, concludes that the letters in the obverse fields of this and the gold commemorative issues, cannot be linked to a dating scheme, but are rather issue numbers.
Estimated Value $10,000 - 12,500.

Realized $17,250
