Baktria. Agathokles, c. 185-170 BC. AR "Pedigree" Tetradrachm (16.6 g). Head right of Herakles, wearing lion's skin headdress. Reverse: Zeus seated left, holding eagle and scepter; in front, monogram. Bopear. Série 12B; SNG ANS --. Very rare, porous. Details of Very Fine.

These commemorative, or "pedigree," coins were first issued by Agathokles and Antimachos I to show the dynastic lineage of their reigns. This tetradrachm, utilizing the Alexander the Great types, is particularly rare, and is missing in virtually every important Baktrian collection.
