Lot 167

1848 N-20 R3 Repunched 48 PCGS graded MS62 Brown, CAC Approved. Frosty medium brown with hints of light bluish steel overtone in protected areas on the reverse. Nicely struck and nearly flawless, but there is a hint of rub on the highest points of the devices. The only notable mark is a tiny speck of carbon nestled between star 2 and the dentils. M-LDS, die state b late. The tops of the C & E in CENT are joined by crumbling and the field around TED is just starting to rise. Our grade is AU58, tied for CC#13 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 4 finer: 1 in 63, 2 in 64, 1 in 65. Estimated Value $225 - UP
Ex Bowers & Merena 11/14/1998:1189-Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth Collection.
