Lot 165

1867, 24¢ gray lilac, F. grill, . Scott 99. An incredibly rare mint block of four, pristine in all respects with complete original gum which has only been lightly hinged to the degree that the hinging at bottom is almost unnoticeable, the color is strong and the overall freshness of the block belies its age, as typically seen, the block is somewhat off-center, this is partially due to the way the design was prepared and the inadequate space allowed on the plate for margins between designs, some short perfs. at bottom due to a natural production fault of a strongly impressed grill, otherwise about Fine for the issue, with 2004 P.S.E. certificate.
Estimated Value $7,000 - 10,000

Realized $7,425
