Lot 164

1848 N-17 R1 NGC graded MS65 Red & Brown. Frosty mint red fading to medium steel brown with 30% of the red remaining on the obverse, 50% on the reverse. Nearly flawless; a tiny tick hidden in the hair right of the ear lobe and a shiny tick on the top of the A in STATES can help identify this cent. This cent has excellent eye appeal. MDS, die state b. Minor repunching shows on the 4 in the date but repunching is no longer visible on the other 3 digits. Our grade is MS63+, tied with one other piece for finest known honors in the Grellman census, and this one has more mint red. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the NGC label. NGC population 1; the finest in RB at either service. Estimated Value $1,500 - UP
