Polished Petrified Wood Section. This very large 12 x 8½ x 2 inch agatized and polished section of petrified wood comes from the Araucarioxylon tree, an extinct 225 million year old conifer that is the state fossil of Arizona. This specimen has a wonderful mix of orange colors produced by iron oxide replacement around the periphery, shades of grays and browns in the interior, and some veins of quartz crystals in the center. Much of the fossilized bark is preserved, as well as some areas of growth rings.
