Lot 1623

Two Sterling Dishes by Towle; Louis XIV Pattern. United States, c. 1925-1935. The two serving pieces include a large, moderately deep footed bowl and a small salver. The Louis XIV design (patented 1919) shows much more delicacy and restraint than one would associate with the name, yet without losing the intricacy and sense of richness that attaches to the idea of "French-style cutlery." The pattern displays an edge border of minute linked flowers, another of flowers in elongated hexagonal frames alternating with addorsed leaves, plus larger dramatic floral swags rimming the interior. Centered within both pieces, a finely hand engraved monogram " E A S," linked by a knotted and intertwined banner. Both items very fine: the plate without blemishes, the bowl with a few tiny, fixable dings. Bowl width: 12"; 615 grams. Plate width: 9-7/8"; 277 grams. Lot of 2 items.
Estimated Value $300 - 400.
