Lot 161

1848 N-15 R5 PCGS graded AU55, CAC Approved. Frosty light to medium chocolate brown. Traces of satiny mint luster remain in protected areas and this cent has excellent eye appeal in spite of some loose dirt collected into protected areas. Sharply struck EDS, die state a, before any die cracks on the reverse. Our grade is EF45+, very close to AU50. A nice, sharp cent, but it could use a proper bath to uncover more of the underlying mint luster. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 3 finer: 1 in 63, 1 in 64, 1 in 65. Estimated Value $400 - UP
From the Dr. Charles Ruby Collection-Ruby Estate, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 9/2012:744-John McBride 6/20/2020-Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth Collection (lot ticket included).
