Early Camel Skull Fossil. Many unusual mammals could be found in present day Nebraska and South Dakota around 30-40 million years ago. A number of their rare and valuable fossils have been found in the White River Badlands where they are uncovered by rain, wind, and frost, but then quickly destroyed unless found and collected. Poebrotherium was one of the very first camels, living over 30 million years ago and originating in North America, not Asia. These early camels lived in herds, were about the size of a sheep, stood around only 30 inches tall, and had longer hind legs for speed. This virtually complete skull is 8 x 2.5 x 3.5 inches and is still positioned on the stone matrix as found in Sioux County, Nebraska. The quality of this rare and important fossil is outstanding with only minor restoration to some of the front teeth.

Add $30.00 for domestic shipping.
Estimated Value $1,100 - 1,600.
