Lot 1602

Lee, Fitzhugh. Panoramic photograph (11 x 3½") of "Gen. Fitzhugh's [sic] Lee and Staff Camp Columbia, Havana" by "Russell Bros." of Anniston, Alabama. Mounted and framed with a Typed Letter Signed ("Fitzhugh Lee") to 17½ x 17". There is a small area of discoloration on the top left corner of the image; scattered tiny chips and some soil; one very faint 1" long red pencil mark in the sky above the camp; minor silvering at right edge. The photo is in good to very good condition.
TLS ("Fitzhugh Lee"). Quarto, Glasgow, Virginia, February 10, 1891. On Rockbridge Company letterhead. To Henry Lamb, Esq. Transmittal folds and minor toning to the edges. Very good condition. Lee's letter expresses regrets that due to the fact that his company duties are "so exacting, constant and pressing" that he would be unable to company with Lamb's request to "write an account of a battle". Presumably Mr. Lamb was seeking a first person account from one of the most respected Confederate generals.
Estimated Value $600 - 700.
