1826 N-5 R2 PCGS AU Detail Cleaned. Glossy medium steel brown and olive with satiny mint frost covering the protected areas on both sides. Essentially flawless, just lightly worn on the highest points of the devices. The toning is attractive and we can not find evidence that this cent has been "Cleaned" as claimed by PCGS. The only marks are a few microscopic pinpricks over the O in ONE. MDS with crumbling in the dentils from star 5 to just beyond star 6. In addition there is a double profile on the portrait and most of the stars (caused by die bounce or "machine doubling.") Our grade is EF40+, close to EF45. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS #36823. Estimated Value $325 - UP
Ex Chris McCawley 3/1983-unknown-McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 5/29/2005:1582-Chuck Hall Collection (lot ticket included).
