Lot 1599

280 Million Year Old Amphibian And Fish. Set on the same 20.5 x 15 inch matrix, this lot contains a 280 million year old well-preserved 8.5 x 3 inch Paramblypterus sp. fish fossil, as well as a remarkably preserved 11 inch long early amphibian, Sclerocephalus hauseri. The fish is complete with excellent scale and fin detail, while the important amphibian is near complete with a well detailed 2 inch long skull that includes a row of sharp teeth, plus skin impressions along the entire body. Skin impressions are rare as they are soft tissue, and even the texture of the skin is detectable in this remarkable specimen. Only one foot and a few digits on the other feet of the amphibian are missing, along with some restoration to the end of its tail. These museum quality fossils are from the Odernheim Pfatz in Germany, a site that has been closed for many years.

Add $40.00 for domestic shipping.
Estimated Value $1,750 - 2,500.
