Lot 1598

Lamb, Jonathan J. Clipped signature and rank, wardate ("J.J. Lamb Col."). 3½ x 2½" slip, January 19, 1864. Blue paper, presumably clipped from an order. Includes endorsement "Approved & forwarded" above signature and "comd 4th & 5th Tenn Inf." below. Text below signature section indicates the document would be sent from "HeadQuarters Strahls Brig". Very good condition.

Lamb, renowned for his courage, commanded the combined 4th and 5th Tennessee regiments, which had been consolidated after heavy losses at Murfreesboro, until he was mortally wounded at Ellsbury Ridge, Georgia in May 1864. This is a unique piece and, although we do wish the signature had not been clipped from the order, it is nonetheless a very desirable signature.
Estimated Value $200 - 300.

Realized $242
