Lot 1511

1852-O. PCGS graded MS-63. Boldly struck with light even toning on both sides. The fields are lustrous and pleasing with no handling issues whatsoever. A truly Choice coin that will dazzle any specialist who demands quality. The central devices are crisp and sharp, most of the stars as well save for a couple of the lower ones on the obverse, and as usual the peripheral dentils show some softness. The New Orleans Mint kept striking pressures slightly low (causing weaker dentils) and extending die life. Another factor may have been a worn collar used in striking the coins, which likely accounts for the die roughness at the periphery. Pop 18; 11 finer, 1 in 63+, 8 in 64, 2 in 65. (PCGS # 7520) Value $2,600 - 2,700

Realized $2,880
