1878 Nickel Three Cents. PCGS graded Proof 65. Only 2,350 minted in Proof, no business strikes were made as the United States economy continued in a brief recession during 1878. All mints were focused on churning out millions of the new Morgan silver dollars, and hence little attention was given to coining other denominations. Sparkling mirror fields and frosty devices throughout, with a whisper of tan color starting on the lower obverse.
