1848 N-4 R4 Repunched Date PCGS graded AU58. Glossy medium brown. Nicely struck with full radial lines in all the stars. The notable marks are two small spots of reddish brown toning on the neck and a patch of shallow verdigris over NI in UNITED. LDS, die state c. The repunching inside the lower loops of the 8's has been lapped off the die and the added line at the dentils left of star 4 is strong. Our grade is net EF40+, tied for CC#12 for the variety in the Grellman census. Comes with an impressive provenance. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 3 finer in 62. Estimated Value $350 - UP
