Freud, Sigmund -- TLS to a Young Admirer Mentioning Psychoanalysis. (1856 - 1909) Austrian neurologist who founded psychoanalysis. Typed letter signed "Freud," one page, 8½ x 6", in German, Vienna, May 25, 1924. Typed on letterhead engraved, "Prof. Fr. Freud / Wien IX Berggasse 10," with original stamped envelope addressed to Arnold Weissberger, first at Cambridge, Mass., then forwarded to Long Island, New York.

Freud writes to a young student in the United States who had apparently come to Vienna when he was on vacation: "Die Jugend ist ja immer enthusiastisch und überträgt leicht ihr Interesse von der Sache auf die Person. Ich hoffe, dass Ihr Interesse für die Psychoanalyse anhalten wird, auch wenn die Person, in der Sie es verkðrpern, nicht mehr da ist. Wenn Sie einmal nach Wien Kommen, wählen Sie dazu nicht die Hochsommerzeit, zu welcher wir alle die Stadt verlassen. Mit freundlichen Wünschen Ihr Freud."

Translation: "Dear Sir, Youth is forever enthusiastic, and easily projects its interest in a subject onto a person. I hope your interest in psychoanalysis will endure, even if the person that you see as its embodiment is no longer present. If you're coming to Vienna at some point, don't pick the middle of Summer, when all of us have left the city. With cordial wishes, Yours Freud." Toning, a couple of edge chips, an old tape mark at top of page, and some wrinkling. Boldly signed by Freud. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
