Lot 1424

France. Louis XV period Silver Bowl dated 1725. A decorated bowl 5 1/4" in diameter, 4" high, and 7" handle to handle, these of classical half length female forms. The bowl bottom inset with a French Ecu coin of Louis XIV of the Bayonne Mint. Along the upper lip, three large old French hallmarks and engraved date and naming as "J.B. Duc De Duras 1725". Very good condition with age appropriate age and tone.
We note that Jean Baptiste, Duke of Duras (1684-1770) was at one time a Marshal of France and Ambassador to Spain in the 1750s.
