Lot 141

1847 N-38 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Lustrous mint red fading to medium steel brown with 30% of the obverse and 15% of the reverse showing mint color. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is excellent. The only marks are a tiny, dull tick in the field right of star 3, a speck of darker toning above the left side of star 2, and a dull nick over CE in CENT. LDS, die state d (Newcomb's old #16), with a fine die crack at S-O. The earlier die lines at the main and inner curls are gone and the die clashmarks are weak but visible. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#6 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 3 finer: 2 in 65, 1 in 65+. Estimated Value $1,000 - UP
Ex Fred Roeunrizek 1/22/2012-Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth Collection.
