Estimated Value $40,000 - UP Both of these medals are believed to be from the private collection of King Carol II. Romania’s king from 1930-1940, Carol was an avid collector in many fields, and legendary among philatelists for his outstanding stamp collection. Romanian gold medals are all extremely rare with each event marked only by one to five pieces struck. Of the mintage, one medal was always presented to the king. Ferdinand would have inherited the medals of his uncle Carol I, and Carol II would have inherited the medals of his father and grand-uncle.
