Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 2

Lot 1361

1953-S. PCGS graded MS-66. Here is the key coin to the Franklin Half Dollar series. First of all, this coin is set apart from the other dates by its low mintage which obviously was not saved in great numbers. After years of collecting data on coins, the PCGS Population Report shows that only 13 coins have been graded with full bell lines of this date, making this by far the most difficult date to locate. When the numismatist examines this coin, you will see virtually complete bell lines, and we would not be surprised to see this coin in a "FBL" holder before long. As it is, this is one of just 43 coins graded this high by PCGS, with none graded higher. What truly separates this piece from the many other mint state 1953-S's are the untouched fields and devices. Sometimes toning obscures tiny tick marks, but without toning to hide behind, the surfaces are laid out there for all to examine. Be sure to view this untoned beauty before the sale, and prepare to bid accordingly.
